Practice what you preach

[I sometimes remind Brianna to sit up straight when she is practicing piano. One time she caught me hunched over when I was sitting at the piano trying to read some music.]

Brianna: "Dad, you're wilting."

[I sat up straight after that.]

Learning to read music

[Brianna, who is seven, is learning to play piano and one of the tasks is to understand "time signatures". The time signature looks something like a fraction, with one number above another. For example, 3/4 time means "3 beats per measure, and the quarter note counts as one beat". This can be a little confusing at first but most of Brianna's music is either "3/4" or "4/4" time, meaning either 3 beats per measure or 4 beats per measure.]

Jack (pointing to the 3/4 time signature): "Brianna, how many beats per measure is this?"
Brianna: "Three to four."

[Technically correct, but not the answer I was looking for.]
